It’s 2020 – it’s time to transform

Low-code technology is still largely under-utilised in Australia compared with other countries – and many organisations have only begun to realise the potential for a technology that offers the twin benefits of rapid development and reduced ongoing maintenance effort. Until recently, many low-code offerings were focused on mobile app development rather than enterprise-grade system development – but this is changing.

For those organisations who realise the potential, it can be difficult to work out how to transform their current IT approaches to a low-code approach.

On the one hand, many organisations have a significant existing investment in “traditional” developments in .NET or Java, or they have found themselves “locked in” to proprietary technology & “Off the shelf” systems by vendor support and licencing paradigms. For many, these systems will become stranded assets in the hyper rapid technology change Gartner is forecasting for the industry.

So what’s the incentive to move? Apart from risking being left behind, low-code can help abstract or decouple your business solution from specific technology choices – making it possible to continually renew/evolve your systems as technology changes.

As you ramp up for 2020, it’s time to consider how you can position your organisation for the next decade, and whether low-code could be the solution for you.
